That was clear, but to go from there to straight up start a suicidaI shooting spree is quite the leap
Not really he wasn’t wit killing her from the jump being she a child. When he dropped her off it weighed in on him that being an accomplice is no better
In Vineland, I don't remember race being a part of it, but there's definitely the dynamic of the revolutionary sleeping with the fascist (called Brock Vond in the book) and they do a really good job of exploring the contradictions within the female character. Brock comes across sexier than Lockjaw though lol.
Been meaning to ask you how similar is the movie to the book. Like what’s the same what’s different?
Also the biggest obstacle to marketing this s*** was easily the title. Let’s be serious. It’s an action movie w Leo if the title was even like “Desert Highway” like the working title or f***ing “Bad Hombres” or some s*** (just spitballing) it would have been easy as f*** for the general public to latch on to
“Hey are you going to see Sinners tonight?”
“Let’s go see Weapons”
“Oh yeah I’m seeing “One.. One.. What.. Ever… Another… with Leo… Action movie?”
Literally it’s that simple I fear
Hope it does well from word of mouth
"I don't know how to do her hair"
Bro, I forgot to mention that! The most emotional line in the whole movie.

You're not wrong about this lol multiple people I know just calling it "that new Leo"

PTAs kids are mixed too I know that line hit different

Eh. I don't really think people are that tripped up over 4 words. It'd still just be "the new Leo flick" regardless of what they named it for most casuals. Same for his last film w/ Scorsese
Its a near 3 hour film that has to sell itself as an "action event" when its not really about those aspects at all. Weapons and Sinners had clear marketing focuses and immensely successful social media runs so people knew what they were going into. People don't really know what this film is about.
Don't think much of this really matters tho. Its gonna be PTA's biggest film and an awards hit regardless. His box office bar was never high, WB just made risky bets and allowed directors freedom which overall worked this year.

I have a pretty bad memory for plot but from what I can remember:
They both are about revolutionaries across different generations.
They both have a fascist returning from the past to settle the score on a group of radicals.
They both have the "sleeping across enemy lines" subplot. Perfidia's character in the book is also a rat and Willa's character has to learn this uncomfortable truth.
The scene where Willa and Regina Hall meet feels pretty similar to the book.
Willa's character doesn't take refuge with nuns, she takes refuge with female ninjas and they ask her to cook for them cause they suck at it.

They are both ninjas AND nuns in the book

Prolly should spoiled this
one line that I laughed at that no one else did was when lockjaw learned about the unarmed vegetarian nuns and he was like “let’s do what we do”. S\*\*\* funny
Sean Penn's performance was perfectly camp
Lockjaw and Aunt Gladys were gifts for the gays

The climax is Brock Vond (Lockjaw) chasing Prairie (Willa) with an helicopter, he founds her, she trolls him, he tells her that he is her father, and then the government cut his funds so the helicopter flies away and he dies trying to get it back
The ending is Prairie going back at that same place expecting him to kidnap her, mirroring the attraction her mother had for him
Shoutout to Chase Infiniti for keeping up with Sean Penn so well
unlike this poster, I'd shoutout Chase Infiniti pretty unconditionally
i pray she's reading this

The dumbed down synopsis if anyone ask:
Two fathers in search of their daughter, both for entirely different reasons.
