Magnolia is super classic
Jan 31, 2024WRUI always wanted to get into PTA. My first movie was licorice pizza lol and I didn’t like it. Figured it’s just some mid career nostalgia project type of movie.
I watched there will be blood and the master over the weekend though and damn I didn’t like blood too much and didn’t like the master at all
and I was super excited to watch both, been putting them off for years now. Blood was good and some amazing scenes but honestly I should’ve watched it like 10 years ago it feels super overrated if you watch it just now. The master is crazy I couldn’t find anything redeeming about it. I’m still super excited to check out his other stuff, betting big on phantom thread, boogie nights and magnolia but yeah starting off roughI watched some more of his movies but this is the end of my PTA January marathon. movies im yet to watch but really want to are Punk-Drunk Love, Inherent Vice, and Hard Eight. im in no rush to do that though
of everything I saw I liked Boogie Nights the best. I guess it's a common thing to compare PTA to Scorsese, at least for some of his shooting and editing choices. it's especially apparent with BN but I liked it on its own too
Magnolia was p good but the mid section was severely overcooked with all the crazy music and literally f***ing nothing happening for like a solid 40 minutes of it
it was fine though. that singing segment || was kinda odd but thinking back it was endearing. || frog rain was a very fun turn of events and im glad I had no idea it's in the movie. it could grow on me on further rewatches for surePhantom Thread was basically a better version of The Master although the movie is frigging weird
PTA really likes annoying characters huhmy final top 3 is

3. Magnolia (shouts to TWBB)
