Oh wow that’s crazy
What’s your top 3
Magnolia, TWBB, OBAA???
Man idk… PTA is one of those directors for me though where if you had me rank his filmography every month for a year and didn’t let me see my previous lists, I’d probably come out with 12 different rankings lol… I find it so hard to rank his filmography in any sort of satisfying way— it’s just way too good for me
Me when I saw Dijon
Why the f*** was he in this lmao

This the correct top 3
wonder how true that Marjorie Taylor green casting rumor was. Maybe that role got changed into the role Goldwyn played or that character got cut out
Oakland
Almost every scene of this movie is a character trying to get information about another character. Maybe that's what a lot of people are responding to, because it makes it feel propulsive. However, it's what holds me back, because it prevents us from having scenes where two characters get to just develop their relationships, and that's usually PTA's bread and butter.
This doesn't bother me about Inherent Vice because we're still getting Doc in like every scene, so I don't have the same sense of "ok let's just get past this scene so I can feel connected to the story again".
I feel worse for Perfidia every watch, and a lot of that really comes down to Teyana, who really should get a supporting actress nom for this. Just the way she reads that letter at the end gives the film a much needed emotional punch.
Some of the early race comments are on the nose and cringy. Though its obviously to highlight one of the themes, thought it could have been done better. Why did the non binary person have to be the snitch
Enjoyed the rest alot. The immigration raid sequence my favorite scene this year. From Leo running into the dojo to him on the roof was amazing.

It's completely unfair to compare this movie to PTA's character study pieces, here the protagonists by their actions the same way something like Mad Max Fury Road does... it's a totally different approach to narrative and characterization

are you fr?? Imagine what they could to a nb person (especially in prison)... it made total sense
I literally hit the luck lottery seeing this in vista, every other screening in NY is getting reports about the projectors messing up

I did think of this, that they had the most to lose, were the most vulnerable. Though I also have heard its not that bad for gay people in prison currently, that it is much more accepted. Not a huge critique of the film.

It's just an approach that leaves me feeling unconnected at points, cause now, if I watch a scene with the Christmas Adventurers, or Regina Hall being interrogated, imma be like ok, I feel like I've already got all I need out of this. And with Willa and Lockjaw in particular, I feel like they're too often not given enough of a scene partner to develop with, so my investment in them is weakened. Whereas I could watch any random scene of the duo from Licorice Pizza a bunch of times cause I could just live in the interactions of characters I care about. Fury Road is Fury Road, the most exciting action movie ever.
