yeah like 10 years ago lol. Highly recommended, it's way weirder than the movie and it's more focused on Prairie's (Willa) journey. You also gonna realize that Tarantino stole the whole Kill Bill concept from there
50 pages left for me
Really love it, def understand why it was only inspired not fully adapted but yeah as I said to twitch, it's the content that i really needed to fill the obaa post watch void
Due for a re-watch tho

Yeah def after getting further n further into it I understand/agreed more and more with the thing you brought up itt before about Willa feeling flat as a character, in part maybe because my only real frame of reference while reading the book is obaa but even stilll

Yeah here willa/prairie is more fleshed out, even when she is never a "hero" who does martial arts and kills nazis.
Her investigating about her mother already makes her having way more agency than willa
Wait deadass? I’ve never seen kill bill be compared to Vineland
Yeah there's this blonde ninja who has heart exploding technique with her fingers, she compares herself to superman with the same a***ogy bill does at the end of kill bill 2, and her car is described as pretty much the same as the p**** wagon

Nah wtf that’s crazy lol. I gotta read the book

Magnolia is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen
So nah
Very curious about what he's gonna do next. I want him to go back to his dark character-driven dramas, he has softened up a lot this last 10 years or so. Idk if he has it in him anymore tho
Damn you really hated this huh...
Certain things I liked about it but overall yeah it was bad
I think saying it's not similar at all is misleading tbch
It's somewhat similar, sure
I was just tryna say it's not 1 to 1, it's inspiration
Like, it's entirely possible to have read Vineland and watch this movie and not pick up on the inspiration if you weren't tipped off about it beforehand

Fair. I didn't watch the movie until like 3 weeks ago, then i started the book the next day I think?
reading it now with 20 pages left, and there are like 4 major characters from each who line up, not perfectly, but well enough to say zoyd = bob, frenesi = perfidia, vella = prairire, and lockjaw = brock vond
That, along with several plot points is why, even though I agree it's not 1:1, just, downplaying the similarity is silly...I think the noticing of the similarities will fluctuate depending on when they read it (when did you read it jw?) and how much they enjoyed it or retained ig?
All said though, as I'm reading it it's like... yeah this would be very difficult to adapt, I understand why it's only an inspiration lol
Saw this a fourth time
And, of course, now I have to walk back pretty much all of my initial problems
another classic
I was especially wrong about the score. So crucial to blending in strangeness and beauty and chaos.
This movie has peak editing too

Just saw this on IMAX. It was very good, but I don’t get why people are saying it’s the movie of the decade.
