backJTThat’s all you’re dumbing my argument down to besides the fact that the writing isn’t that good, the characters don’t have a real reason to be radical. They just are, instead of focusing on anything that’s really revolutionary. Also, it feels very much like a fetish film. The movie just sucks to me. Like I’m not sure what the motivations are for their movement to even exist besides to tear s*** down. They never even stay an actual anti-capitalist or anti-patriarchal or anti-white hegemony type of view. Then there’s like several scenes where it just doesn’t make sense like, why does the cop do not die just for him to comr back.
No motivation other than to just tear s*** down? Are you familiar with the Weather Underground at all? They were just a bunch of anarchist hippies blowing s*** up. They had no real plan for seizing power or what to do when they got it. They were cosplay revolutionaries.

It's the liberal equivalent of conservatives trashing movies with gay people in them

That group didnt have any real motivations, they weren't supposed to representatives of an ideal radical group. Which is pretty much why the group gets disbanded in like the first 20ish minutes of the movie.
But like others said, this a father and daughter character driven narrative at the heart of it. The thesis of it is really just passing the torch to the next generation where the previous generation failed. It's not really tryna make any grand political statement beyond that, while it does have social and political implications and commentary, it wasn't never the focus of the film.
I dont really see how it's a "fetish film" and i dont really see what was wrong with the character dialogue of Lock Jaw

kinda yes but there is also a message about what's actually worth fighting for and this separates PTA from Spielberg. While Spielberg usually advocates for the bourgeois core family PTA has a more nuanced approach while staying somewhat true yet it's far removed from a traditional family and what might constitute having a life worth living for.
