Rewatching magnolia then licorice pizza made me appreciate LP so much more. They are somewhat similar but polar opposite

I also think this new movie is gonna give LP a lot more weight and purpose within his filmography. Something that was super loose, low stakes and super based in cultural and personal nostalgia and where we want to return to.

followed by something super frantic, high stakes and super based in where we are currently and where we are sadly headed.

It’s weird bc I think the plot of Boogie Nights is way more entertaining than PDL but PDL looks incredible, the sound design, editing and the micro acting Sandler is doing is nuts

so far I got magnolia #1 off these rewatches but PDL and BN are neck and neck for #2 idk which I’d rank over one another

The actual film wasn't shot on 70mm or 70mm IMAX so Im honestly not sure if it'll make the kind of difference people are acting like it will.

The thing with shooting in VV 35mm tho is that it can play on 1:43 IMAX at full ratio for the full duration. There's never been a film that could do that before for an entire 2.5+ hour runtime. That vs a regular 70mm print would be different viewing experiences.

70mm is also a fantastic option cus its gonna look great struck from a VV negative. The Brutalist did that last year pretty well imo. The general options are all good it just comes down to personal preference. Prob wouldn't go far out my way unless there was more to make out of a trip
