Cus the movie sucks. All Pedo s*** aside. It’s not a good film script wise.

my main criticism with your side of this argument is labeling it “Pedo S***

What Alana’s character is doing is wrong and morally disgusting but isn’t pedophilla you’re thinking of ephebophilia

I dunno, there's instances in society where breasts are exposed and it's not sexual necessarily like nude beaches or breastfeeding. If a d***s out it's always sexual

She literally exposes herself to a teen so that the teen get have a sexual pleasure out of it

I have a huge problem with how Alana mentally, verbally and physically abuses this kid throughout the film, always uses this kid to get further in her pursuits, never sets proper boundaries by establishing a very clear non romantic, sexual relationship… a relationship that she shouldn’t have encouraged by actually going to the date that he asked her out on.

And she’s rewarded for all of this by the end of the film.

One of the many reasons this film pissed me off. I cannot believe there zero outrage around it. In fact it got great reviews ...like wtf

    @Elric

Alana's stuck in a cycle where after the initial high of her relationship with Gary wears off, she gets disenchanted with the situation and realizes she needs to grow up and do something with her life.

She's an adult with no sense of direction, or clear purpose, when she meets Gary she's working for a man who clearly doesn't value or respect her.

And most of the s*** she gets into is cuz of Gary's guidance. Gary's agent is the reason she gets into acting, she gets into that water bed business because of Gary etc.

Just look at the scene where Gary curves her for that other girl that's closer to his age. She's salty as f***, dejected, and clueless as what to do with herself when Gary's not on her.

Then look at the scene where they're all together after escaping Bradley Cooper's character. While the boys are joking and goofing off in the street, she's sitting on the curb having a moment of self realization, like "damn I need to get my s*** together."

And that's nothing to say about the actual men that are in her life. Her first boss seems to be a sexist who gropes her innapropriately, the initial boyfriend she gets seems to be an airhead who can't read the room, the movie star is a testosterone fueled adrenealine junkie caught up in his own planet, the dumb racist restaurant owner and even Joel Wachs who seems well adjusted is a liar who disregards how said lies hurt his boyfriend's feelings.

That's why near the end Joel's lover goes

    "They're all little s***s, aren't they?"

Think about the circumstances and how s***ty the adults are in this world that 15 year old Gary seems like the best choice for Alana.

I haven't even delved into Gary and his attention span. Dude goes from being an actor to a waterbed owner to owning an arcade etc.
He randomly goes from Alana to that girl his own age and back, and then there's that comment that girl in the restaurant made about him.

Part of me feels like he's into moreso the chase then actually any long term feelings of Alana or something.

A depressed grown woman with no direction / purpose in life and an impulsive teenager who switches interests and goals on a whim?

This is not a relationship that's gonna last or at the very least.. be stable lol

    great a***ysis

even from Gary’s pov doesn’t seem like he’s intensely attracted to her or anything but he’s very romantic about her as a person, she possessive over him because she’s lost & likes him as person, seems completely unromantic, this definitely only avoids being creepy cause she’s the adult party
