I liked their relationship but one of the most off-putting cheers I ever sat through at the cinema was when Brad's character absolutely liquified those poor brainwashed teenage girls. Brad, who was shown to already be a wife killer and tough enough to easily whoop Bruce Lee like can y'all simmer down the stakes were not that high here and this man is enjoying this way too much for someone on acid

Pretty sure the man did all the stabbing in real life. It's funny because all these films full of violence toward women and Quentin really set himself up for his magnum opus with the Sharon Tate murder... but he tastefully decided defy those expectations in favour of.... having an overpowered woman killer mutilate them? Idk it just seemed like such a f***ed choice but I'm no Sigmund Freud... I just share a birthday with him

Ok yikes but still the finale of Hollywood was some garbage. Even if this is what happened in real life the audience absolutely howling and cheering at Brad Pitt liquefying this chick's face and Leo charring the other one just didn't sit right with me. Same thing with Django when he kicks Jamie's metal face thing and says "cock a doodle doo, ni**er" gales of laughter Quentin really knows how to hit those notes

I don’t get why any of this makes you uncomfortable. People are adults. They know it’s fake. They’re laughing at it cause it’s over the top. It says nothing about the artist or the audience around you. If anything it’s like there’s a spotlight shining on you saying “you’re a weirdo” not anybody else.

Love how you’re defending Hateful Eight which has a running gag of a woman being punched a million times. She’s not actively trying to rip a baby out of someone’s stomach either. She’s chained up and has nowhere to go. You just have bizarre hang ups with films.

I love Elric but he’s dead wrong. He seems to be reading into Tarantino’s motives in this weird twisted way where he thinks he’s like getting off to doing harm to women. Tarantino for the majority of his career has written strong female characters who have kicked a s*** ton of ass and f***ed up plenty of male bodies. The by comparison smaller instances where women in his films get hurt has been exaggerated. It’s much less than your average slasher film. The only thing I can see here where he decides to highlight this violence in this way beyond giving people catharsis for a historical tragedy is to double down on the silly criticism he’s gotten over this kind of stuff in the first place. The whole film is sort of sticking it to people who believe fictional violence manifests real violence. That conversation in the car with the Manson girls talking about violence on television encapsulates this point. Sharon watching herself and the audience smile at her is another significant scene in the film. It’s about that last glimmer of warm light existing in the worst of darkness.
