I cant really agree wit that tbh. They only really had that sound on some of oracle jazz. Projects before and after it are kinda different. Show me how just blew up like that

“Guitar riff with chorus pedal” is still very much the core of their sound, although I definitely wouldn’t deduce them just to that either

You know what I mean. That simple indie sound. Bands like sales or acts like joji. People hear a chill song with a simple guitar riff, probably with a chorus pedal and put it in a box. I think that type of music is inoffensive and is nice to just listen to. It's kinda wild how people downplay that type of music like it's not pleasing to listen to. And even lump bands that do genuinely cool s*** in with it just because they share some of the same motifs.

joji is on a major label and is def a crossover star but sales is real indie in every sense of the word. someone on ktt1 put me on to them when i was in college and i booked them for a show at my school. they def were independent then and still are! cool to the seem get tiktok motion after the fact. they also have a unique and trademark sound imo
