The EDM/pop phase actually helped him. Once he got married to Tameka, his fans bullied her and their relationship cuz she was so much older than him. He shut down his biggest fansite and went on TRL ranting to his fans about it. I think he went on some big radio station too and him attacking his own fans is what hurt him. And the fact he took a 4 year break and came back with a adult R&B album during the EDM phase didn't help either. It's sad cuz Here I Stand is his most mature and best album imo.

The EDM singles got him another #1 hit in his 3rd decade with OMG, which is on BIllboard's song of the decade list too. Scream gave him another solo top 10 20 years into his career. But he still did R&B at the same time. There Goes My Baby, Daddy's Home, Climax all classics but the pop songs were naturally gonna get more attention at the time. His 2010-2012 comeback was huge cuz most people just knew he was done after Tameka. He came back very strong.

I wonder why some artists don't do a bunch of features while other do. Like Chris and Kellz have so many features, but even as an Usher stan I can only think of maybe 4, and that's stretching it. Most of his hits are solo, but his collabs usually say "duet with" or "and Usher". Maybe he just likes working solo?
