people usually imply that mac's relapse was a consequence of his break-up with ari and how they paraded their relationship all over the tabloids/live shows (they did pap strolls infront of their apartment which had a private exit, so it was def on purpose)
ari and pete were shoving it down everyone's throat, mac even got asked about their engagement on radio (they got engaged after 2 months together or sum)
