Not even surprised. Gimmicky s*** like this is usually not followed by dope music

i wish the mind was powerful enough to just come up with countless references in a moment's notice. because surely this statement could be proven wrong many times over. i realize you said "usually" so obviously you believe in exceptions.

but on the point of gimmicks, this is entertainment. it's a tricky argument to make. i also think something being a gimmick or not is purely subjective, which weakens the point even more...

To me personally, with all the Kanye biting and some of the marketing, it felt like he was trying to appeal to the “pretentious” crowd

I think he’s always been like that

the pretentious/mysterious/gimmick thing is just one big meme, right? right??

like are we all observing the same industry? excitement and spectacle are a major part of this thing. always has been. if you think pgLang's approach in particular is boring, that's totally different and valid. ain't s*** really too mysterious about this tho. lol

i think niggas should just ignore it as if kendrick's name isn't tied to it at all. come back around when the great big mystery is revealed if it's so bothersome. lol

saying 'pretentious' is more annoying than saying 'aesthetic' atp.

I don’t even think it’s boring, I think some people just kind of see it as an eye roll moment, like the approach is a bit played unless it’s executed well in a fresh way. Also Kendrick doesn’t really deserve the benefit of the doubt with regards to the mysterious allegations. We’re in a different era

The guy wiped all his music and then did this strange looking interview with weird backmasked questions to garner hype instead of just dropping a hot single. I mean I get it, playing to your audience (who enjoys that sort of thing) but starting your career off mysterious when you’re already a literal nobody is just crazy pretentious to me. I hope the music backs it up but pgLang hasn’t been promising so far and that single they found on SoundCloud was booty

I’m not gonna judge off a SoundCloud loosie

I’m excited to see his video and hear the songs. Kendrick co-sign alone will do that

oh yeah i just keep using "boring" because that's my personal opinion lol and i can't really have any other judgments on it because i haven't seen/we haven't gotten enough from them. all i really know the name from is Keem's videos at this point.

I don't really see anything wrong with wanting to have a musical clean slate when you're about to debut in a professional setting. it's the internet, the old stuff is still out there.

The interview just seems like a little promotional introductory tool like anything else, and apparently he's putting something out to go along with it in the same week as its premiere. again, seems harmless to me.

I understand your pov tho, i just think there's better ways to express it than everyone chalking s*** up to pretentiousness and mysteriousness these days. it's ART. live in that s***. you might not remember that single a month after it comes out, but you might remember this pretentious 1 minute interview he did and all the other unorthodox stuff they seem to be doing.

i mean hes got 42 songs on his soundcloud i think you can get a pretty good idea of what sort of artist he is

but at the same time he could just completely switch it up for whatevers next but idk

I’m actually surprised and not surprised that Kendrick seems to gravitate to artist that are not the traditionally skilled rappers with song making abilities but the rappers who seem to be catchy and playfull witth what they create.
