This is actually amazing news. The potential of reparations coming to Philadelphia would do a lot for the impoverished and dilapidated neighborhoods in North and West Philly especially.
Let's see how the white Philadelphians feel about it!
Basically this should just be a taste of how white folk in general feel about reparations for Black people, incase you ever wonder why we haven't gotten reparations yet
Not all white people have the same politics
Likely not. But if you tell them that reparations are going to involve them having to pay higher taxes you gonna start seeing some of their true politics start to show.
Not all white people have the same politics
Glad to see Hurdle33 is pro reparations!
Also man really came itt and the first thing he says to white people being racist is "Not all white people!"
The jokes kinda write themselves.

Nah bro if you talk to the organizers in Philadelphia they are going to tell you the same thing. Have to take all the support and allies you can get.

Again, I'm sure there are white folk out there who don't mind. That's understood. But in today's social climate with loud, angry, racist morons on a rise, the venom spewed forth in response to the idea of rightfully due reparations that will help fix destroyed communities is very telling and should be worrying.
Instead of tryna "Not all white people" this, more energy should be on combating the potentially violent racists who oppose reparations.
If all niggas are gonna get as reparations is a check, then all these organizers, and activist really dropped the ball.

I'm sure it will differ from city to city/state to state. Like reparations for Blacks in the Carolinas, Alabama, Florida would most likely be much more significant than reparations for Blacks in Maryland, Jersey, NY, etc.
reparations are nice but this ain’t going anywhere man, sounds like a good way to get funding for whatever sector this falls under and then just endlessly debate, make proposals and justify using tax dollars towards this.
The name itself is already just looking to draw out reactionaries
Philly is so disgusting and dirty, I literally can’t believe how dystopian it is every time I go there.
The worst poverty I have ever seen in the United States.
People crawling on the streets, picking out of dumpsters, tweaking on the curbs, cars up on blocks; s*** you only see in movies..
I hope this helps the city, because damn, they truly need it.
Ya I agree is it silver surfer?
Silver Surfer Black art done by Tradd Moore. Dude's artwork goes crazy

All these reasons are why reparations are kinda necessary I feel. Seeing all those people complaining that their tax money is potentially going to fixing those neighborhoods has me confused cause like...isn't this the kinda s*** our tax money should be going towards instead of the majority of it going to police?
God forbid people's tax money goes towards improving schools, public transportation, restoring/replacing abandoned building, community centers, etc. My hope is that's what the reparations will go to. Blacks in Philly receiving checks as reparations is cool, but the bigger flex is it going to restoration efforts that will give more Black citizens cleaner and safer communities with s*** getting better for families and children growing up out there.

They could've called it something like the Fair Reparation Committee or the Restorational Reparations Act or something to that effect and it still would have people in an uproar. The reality is whenever "reparations" comes up conservatives are going to be against it just on the grounds of them being against free handouts". Especially if it's something that is catered towards helping PoC in low income communities.

if it weren’t for grassroot activists and orgs over the past 10-15 years even applying pressure nationwide on black equality and police brutality this wouldn’t be brought up. Especially in the aftermath of 2020
You’re discounting the work that happens on the ground to even get politicians to notice it. “Dropping the ball” doesn’t make sense at all

I agree
But putting your faith in bourgeois politics to seriosuly hand out reparations for black people in 2023 after 200 years of slavery
…cmon man
This is nothing more than something to check off on a diversity board and again waste tax payer dollars
If they wanted to give reparations to black people by large they could’ve done it multiple time periods ago
Giving reparations within the same system that enslaved us and continues to exploit blacks people is a bandaid fix and you know it. But not getting into that
Even reading the article it says “they’re just going to make proposals based off city’s role in slavery”
So yeah I’d imagine this is gonna just be 90% deliberating and maybe they’ll build a park or something out of this
Like if they were serious this would be a nationwide effort backed by the US government at the helm, not some city council in one city. This is laughable
How many times have we been told black people are getting reparations?
