And ticket prices are jacked all the way up now, beyond inflation

For sure. As well as the accessibility and awareness of tickets since the internet marketplaces took off, advertising went sicko mode on data targeting users and buying every sliver of blank pixels on the internet, and the advent of social media promotion becoming the standard way to announce cities/dates and directly link fans to ticket sales.

Even if you took all those factors away, that wikipedia article they screenshotted is simply wrong with the numbers.

If you do adjust for inflation based on 2022 dollars, the highest grossing tour of all time is U2's 360 tour in 2011, at $958,115,130 — based on the charts posted on that wiki page.

But even still, that same article lists that same U2 tour on 3 different chart sections, and all 3 have completely different numbers under the gross columns lol.

    this is annoying lol

but i think she’s not talking about the tour itself, but the whole fan movement around taylor and this tour this year, and she’s comparing it to other artists’ peaks like MJ and Beatles

I don’t think she’s nowhere near as popular as MJ was, but I think we could compare Taylor’s success to Beatlemania in the 60s 🤔

Not a chance in my opinion because The Beatles had much more diverse fan base. Yea they may have had screaming girls at their shows but it was all type of folk queueing up to by their records soon as they released.

I'm not saying only young female like Taylor but she's just not as transcendental in my opinion ! Plus, and probably more relevant to this, this is a tour where shes feeding the huge fan base she's crafted over the last 15 years and doing greatest hits tour, rather than the exciting rise of a new band and music capturing the world that Beatlemania was ! You just can't compare it

The Beatles created artists, they didn't just bring out consumers. Taylor is getting her fans out to the shows for this greatest hits tour, but the Beatles really did change the course of music with Beatlemania and the artistic track they took after that. It's just not the same thing.

The biggest influence Taylor may have on music could involve distribution and royalties more than her songwriting.

She shoulda just come out and said that Taylor is bigger and more popular than Jesus Christ

Period. The Beatles were innovators and pioneers. Not just musically (literally breaking ground for new genres) and artistically (through their music videos, album sleeves, etc.), they literally revolutionized how music was made and consumed. Taylor Swift doesn't even register on the same plane.

music-wise the beatlemania era tours werent exactly amazing. you couldnt even hear the music over the screaming + s***ty sound systems and they only played for like 30minutes

most great tours are better than those

plus thriller didn't even get a tour? i'm not counting victory

It’s bait but the idea is absolutely hilarious to me

The only slightly famous biggest selling album of all time which broke racial barriers and saved the music business from a recession while pioneering a new art form hitting #1 for 37 weeks straight moving a milli a week multiple times

    Or

White woman who’s always the victim of every situation ever with no stage presence singing about her terrible relationship history in which she’s conveniently never the problem, having the “biggest tour ever” thanks to insanely inflated ticket sales

    Yeah let’s go with Eras

MJ stan having outdated views on things, what's new. You must be in your 40s lol. Your opinion about Taylor is so 2012.

Taylor has 6 albums selling 1 million copies first week, how many does MJ have?

There's a story about the Beatles finishing Sgt Pepper (I believe) and a person from the pressing team was on the way to deliver it to the audio team and took the unmastered press and went into a hotel and everyone stopped what they were doing and listened to the album together.

    No artist has that power.

Today if someone said so and so had the new album from Taylor Swift maybe like 2 people would care and listen. Maybe.

And im not the biggest Beatles fan either but Swift does not have that power.

Still feel like $$$ is a metric not worth trying to factor. Tickets sold would be the better metric. Not sure if it was in that wiki article put in here

Not to take away from Taylor and her massive achievements, but there's yet to be an artist who united everybody from all walks of life like Michael
