to come out as a 30yo with lyrics pandering to teenagers like teachers leave our kids alone over either disco beats or crying like a dying dog over slow ballads, thank u but i ain’t looking out for that

animals is more passable, you’re just hitting on the wrong era of pf for me, the most overrated saturated one in my book, way overexposured

It’s about how people use their life experiences to protect themselves against things they don’t understand and until one takes the accountability to strip down these forms of hostility and denial to become vulnerable and express their needs from loved ones.

It shows the effects of emotional neglect and how that in turn reflected his relationships and ultimately isolating becomes immense self hatred which is then projected onto others (such as minorities and people deemed to be morally inferior) Its an album that elicits the listener to look deeper into context of the album as oppose to the actual presented song writing. Roger incorporates themes through perspective based on real life experiences. (DSOTM is an album about life and death. WYWH is about the affects of the music industry and friendship. Animals is about hierarchies and the finding of love/trust whereas The Wall is about the pain of unstable childhoods and self sabotaging)

That being said, it’s not perfect. Songs should’ve been shorter and merged together or should’ve provided a more direct context, but the instrumentation is roaring, grand, melancholic and heavy. It’s aware of what is and doesn’t take itself too seriously. I will say that I can’t help, but think it does bite The Who’s rock opera albums, but those don’t have the subtleties and cinematic melodies like Is There Anybody Out There? and the progression from the first track to the Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2.

And if you don’t like it, The Downward Spiral is available on all streaming platforms (an album inspired by and better than The Wall in every sense)

I will agree though that the Syd Barrett era and DSOTM WYWH are better, but Animals will forever be my favorite just because I went into it not knowing anything about it and being captivated
