3/5 is a great score and HHDX is awesome

3/5 is considered mixed on metacritic. It’s in no way a great score. It’s passable

So it’s not even surprising that “K-Pop” exists, a diabolically stupid plan to create the most popular song in the world. You have Travis, the Weeknd, and Bad Bunny fusing their croons together over a sauceless Afropop rhythm on a track where the title supposedly isn’t a reference to the Korean pop genre to game extra clicks, but has the same effect. The algorithms will love it, congrats on the hit song. Surprised he didn’t round out the chart-chasing by hitting up Morgan Wallen.

dean blunts my guy & no doubt he’s involved, so I’m definitely interested lol rocky generally has good taste in who to involve so even if it’s ass it should be an interesting listen Lmao

I can’t fully ignore an album with Dean Blunt, Madlib and Alchist involvement imma always pop out lmao plus I wanna know what Morrissey contributed

Are you playing a bit here or are you arguing sincerely that one verse in 73 minutes invalidates every criticism of the album being vacuous

I just said a lot is between the lines? I'm not using one example, I didn't even list an example?

for reference, I like Veeze but how is this album better than Utopia?

    https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/veeze-ganger/

I’m not knocking but i’m geniuely curious as to how people think this album is better, I’d love to hear opinions

utopia has higher highs but i 100% will listen to more songs from ganger longer than i will listen to the 3/4 songs i like from utopia

it is? panned or criticized find this hard to believe lol

So far seen HipHopDX, Pitchfork, and Jayson Buford completely obliterate this album and not just "criticize" it but genuinely trying their hardest to find new creative ways to call something bad

  • Jul 31, 2023

Fair score imo. Id rate it around the same, 6-6.5

These criticisms are as soulless and vapid as the artist they are accusing Travis of being.

Travis has never been a great lyricist or touched on any important sociopolitical topics - acting like Utopia revealed any of this is disingenuous and hypocritical. I can name 10 other artists off the top of my head that aren't superior lyricists to travis yet no one expects them to be.

This album is literally just 2023 Owl Pharaoh but if it was full of Antidotes and Beibs in the Traps it'd be universally loved. Thank GOD that is not the case

isn’t jayson buford the guy who did that bullshit ass mac miller article and then recited it in front of his white peers in an attempt for validation

    Antidote hard

    But yes I agree

Hopefully this doesn't hit Trav too hard personally, I think it really gets to him when people just hammer him with brutal and deliberately hurtful reactions to his music. That Deadspin article from back in the day was disgusting

It's a weird album to crusade against because I'm not sure what else anyone expected from it. It's lavish wallpaper music, only more lavish and perhaps more wallpapery than usual. I don't know. Travis has never been a big critical favorite but now he's a target, probably because of the Astroworld deaths.

This is exactly what im saying. When Gunna drops an. album no one is talking to me about no f***ing lyrics and substance lmao.

acting like ur just now finding out Travis doesnt make introspective music in 2023 either makes you dishonest or incredibly stupid

    Utopia is trash

Don’t compare it to Yeezus. Ye’s creativity is light years away. Yeezus is 10 tracks with maybe 1 miss. Ratio better

probably the most polarizing mainstream release of the 2010s

it was simultaneously the highest and lowest rated album by critics that year
