And for as much derision Kendrick’s getting from bemoaning cancel culture and social media stifling creativity, I think these publications’s takes on Aunty Diaries is proving his point. Obviously the song is coming from a place of love and respect but it instead gets twisted because of certain faux pas’s as if that’s more important than the actual message of the song. It seems a lot more constructive to celebrate a rapper making a song that celebrates transgenderism rather than give all your energy into criticizing that he’s “making himself the main character” but that’s just me.
I usually hate artists or anyone going on about cancel culture
But it's not like Kendrick's made a whole album about cancel culture. There's so much here lyrically. Seems silly for anyone to get hung up on a few bars about that. Whole album comes off like it's about trauma, mainly generational and family trauma imo.
That's why it's so much stronger than DAMN to me. Sure there's a couple skips but he has such a strong vision and knows exactly what he wants to say on this album

Playlist music changed A LOT in this culture. Y’all would be calling albums like Blonde, Channel Orange, Yeezus, MBDTF, Take Care, Atrocity Exhibition, Currents, We Got From Here, etc critic bait and pretentious if they came out today.

ken is pretty mid album wise
he got some good songs but what does that have to do with kendrick album? You can't compare an album that just dropped to yeezus, take care, and mbdtf. Most of the songs if not all of them on morale are skippable no where near close to his previous releases!

They aren’t skippable at all. It’s a great project with an important theme. The storytelling on it has been the best this year so far. Production is great too. There’s literally nothing average on this record. But if you think that there is, there’s no point in having this convo so let’s agree to disagree

album mid 5/10 at best
felt like kendrick was being generous for putting Die Hard and Silent Hill on the album. Otherwise, this would have been the most unlistenable music. We get it. It's important for people to explore different parts of music but we don't need kendrick to help us do that. We have alternative music. I could search spoken word on youtube and have a better experience. Kendrick tried to be different and "artsy" but he failed the kanye exam.
