my review for John Denver's Greatest Hits

Never listened to John Denver from what I can remember but this was a cool listen. His voice is great, like really great actually. It's pretty much impossible to judge this as a body of work because it's a greatest hits but if this is his best then thats a testament of how great of a musician he is. Listening to this made me sit and think about my mortality and just how small I am in the grand scheme of things. Mortality is a crazy thing to think about...

He's a great lyricist, "For Baby (For Bobbie)" is such a gorgeous song. "Sunshine on My Shoulders" is so so so so beautiful. The way he sings over the guitars is just mesmerizing. I need to take a trip to Denver it seems.

My top 3 favorite songs:

Listened whilst working this Friday, one of the easiest first plays of an album I've experienced. Funk AND house? Good stuff. Definitely revisit this one.

I gotta be honest

I don't like it.

Not even a little.

Its painfully bland. The melodies suck. His voice is boring and he has no energy. This is heartless music and it sounds completely devoid of passion.

This feels like soul music for stores at the mall or for dramatic reality show background music.

The only positive things I can think of are that it sounds polished (if thats something you highly value) and that his voice isn't "bad" even if it completely lacks character

Juice Wrld- Death Race for Love

To start off this is my first Juice Wrld project - I never realized how much bro sounds like Post Malone, idk how I feel about that. I feel like it plays very largely into his appeal but thats a point I don’t feel like elaborating on. That said I don’t think Juice is for me based off this project, the angsty d*** rap s*** doesn’t really do much for me coming from him. The production was nice specifically on Flaws and The Bees Knees.

I relistened to my highlighted songs a few times before this review and sometimes I think they’re mid sometimes I like them. Even when I like the songs I forget what I liked about them as soon as something else comes on and nothing sticks with me after. I can’t tell if it’s his energy carrying the tracks or the beats but Ik it’s really not the substance for me. He can flow I guess but Idk Juice did not save my life with this one.

It came to my attention that this is a posthumous album so I may check out some of his other work but i this was very meh on this, I can see what people like about him but it means nothing to/does nothing for me. I could never hear another Juice song or this album again and feel like nothing was lost.

Kid Cud - A Kid Named CUDI

Good tape u know when I was a littler guy I spun this one a lot u already know u already know. Kid Cudi did not save my life, but he made some tunes I've enjoyed greatly. I've always said this a top 3 Cudi project.

On the relisten, I definitely don't feel the vibes of this project like that anymore. I guess that this is growing up! Or maybe I'm just not in the right mindset for it right now.. Shout out Plain Pat, who definitely came through. Cudi with the PLAYFUL & EMOTIONAL bars! Tape feels very frontloaded which makes the back half feel lacking a bit sometimes, Heaven At Nite makes the tape end on a high note though.

My favs: Down & Out, Man on the moon, The Prayer, Day N Nite (WHAT WHAT!), Embrace The Martian, Maui Wowie, Heavven At Nite
