Crazy for You by Best Coast
Didn't like this album much at all at first so I was procrastinating the review, but I've listened to it a few times today and it grew on me a lot. From the beginning, it is immediately clear that the band is heavily inspired by 60s surf rock. Everything about it is laid back. It's a very light album with simple subject matter, songwriting and production. I like that Bethany is able to express her vulnerabilities in such a direct way - no metaphors, similes, etc. It's like it was written by a lazy, bratty, obsessive teenager. This is a positive because it gives the album a very concentrated style, but also a negative to me because the complainy nature of the lyrics can be draining. Overall, it is very catchy album with some bops that I will likely return to in the future, but I can understand why someone would be turned off from its content.

@SonicNirvana i liked this album. i think i know Wilco but i don't know this album but i'm not even sure what i do know about them but they seem familiar.
i think it was a bit of an uncomfortable listen for me because i haven't listened to a rock album in ages. i realized that i forgot a lot of what was going on in rock and kept getting nice little reminders along the way of the listen. there was a lot i had to get used to again.
i think if anything this reminded me of that guy i used to be, and this is just the instruments and music of everything, i didn't even really pay attention to lyrics.
definitely was a cool journey thank you for the recommendation. i have about 4 favorites from here already, You Satellite, Pickled Ginger, King of You, Magnetized.
every1 can start submitting their entry 4 this upcoming week
please submit by saturday

Smog - Knock Knock
I've been meaning to check this Bill Callahan guy out for a while so I was happy to receive this rec. The style of the vocals instantly reminded me of Silver Jews and Jim O'Rourke and I was surprised to see O'Rourke actually worked on the album. I appreciate how a lot of these songs are more slow burners with a drawn out pace; River Guard was the perfect example of this for me. It really starts picking up in the 2nd half even though it doesn't really get louder or faster or anything. I can tell from some lyrics and people's opinions on Callahan in general that this is something that emotionally connects with them. I'm not connecting with it much like that so far so it was overall just decent to me, with a few great parts and a few parts that bored me. I think his singing could grow on me in the future, but right now it left me a little bored sometimes when the instrumentals were sparser with less electric guitar. With this type of slow sad indie rock/folk music I prefer more emotive vocals like Red House Painters or something. I definitely need to give this a few more listens, I can tell there is a lot of subtleties and charm I think I'm not getting yet. This is also a very small complaint but it bothers me sometimes when I can hear the squeaking of his hand across the guitar too much.
favorite songs: River Guard, No Dancing, Hit the Ground Running (except for the children singing backing vocals)
ill give it a 6.5/10 for my initial impression

The Goalieβs Anxiety at the Penalty Kick - Ways of Hearing
This album was a deviation of the style and genre i usually listen (Rap in all its forms, reggaeton and R&B), so it was very interesting and pleasing to listen to something different, even if i cant appreciate like a die-hard fan of that genre.
I really liked the intro song (an olive coat). The instrumental really convoyed a nostalgic feeling to me and it was a really nice blend on instruments, and when the girls voice gets added at the end it really elevates it. The singer vocals were a good accompaniment to the instrumental, that is what makes this track special. Added it to my playlist.
Tho i have to keep it real, after that first track, that surprised me, the ones after started to blend in and sound samey to me. But to be fair, i listened to it late at night after a tired day, so i think repeated listens will make me discover new things and songs.
My least liked song was the interlude Winston's Theme. And even tho its an interlude, it was kind of jarring and even a bit difficult to listen. Only thing i straight up disliked about the album tho.
5.5/10. I think more listens will help me like it a lot more tho
