i think i get why the @meh video has lacunas. And why pain 1993 is mixed in the way that it is. I think the WLR sound is attempting to do the pootie tang flow: create a sense of volume not through creating just a more spacious soundstage in the mix but the total lack of sound where you'd expect the vocals to sit. carti stays in the dark corners of the beat creating the sense that the song has no center. this is willfully disorienting and forces the listener to either reject the lack of sound or embrace the space with their own energy and emotions. im usually not one for music that is deliberately challenging in this way but I respect the commitment and the vision to do this over cancun/molly style bangers. These will be songs not to unpack like a present, but to fill like a shipping container or a new apartment.
