Trying to expand my pallet. Anything from the past 30-40 years. Trying to get into more rock/alternative/indy/electronic stuff…any genre really besides the aforementioned.
Give me the essentials, ITT. They could be the most obvious choices to you but they won’t be to me. Go!
This so non-specific. Why don't you just say what you already like and we can branch out

Thanks fam! You really went in…
If you want to hear where Dr Dre got his sound from listen to the first few Funkadelic and Parliament albums. Snoops whole dog imagery is from them too
I recommend you dig through your favourite samples used in beats and find out music that way
Nothing is True and Everything is Possible
album by Enter Shikari. they are a genre bending rock band that I don't think get enough recognition. This album is similar to The Life of Pablo where it combines all the sounds of their previous work into a great overall album.
Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold I think is the best rock album of the 2010s
Blackstar by David Bowie is a popular choice, haven't read the other comments yet but I'm sure somebody suggested it already

All Sade albums
metallica - master of puppets
Talking Heads - Fear of Music
U2 - Boy
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
The Mothers of Invention - Freak Out!
Ride the lightning better
yes but for some reason i think master of puppets slightly more likeable to a beginner
