"Japan has no law prohibiting racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination, or discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity."

Yeah, I don't think that's the reason, seeing as some of these descriptions certainly apply to many japanese people.

Where did you get this quote from? I am like 99.9% sure this is just not true.

I think this really only applies to discrimination based on religion and sexual orientation. Which is still awful, but not as bad as "Japan has no laws protecting from discrimination at all".

I wonder how the Japanese feel about this seeing as how they rarely see black people like that lmao

Just reinforces bad stereotypes some people already have. It's getting better in modern day because more students are going abroad, though.

Doesn’t it seem a little hypocritical to call out people who watch English dub of animes then watch a Japanese dub of a show that’s original language is english

But since you've mentioned it I did a little more searching and apparently this only applies to non-citizens (?)

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Japan

The Constitution prohibits discrimination of citizens on the basis of race, creed, gender, social status, or family origin; non-citizens are not protected from these forms of discrimination by the constitution nor the law as of 2014.

Foreigners in Japan may face human-rights violations that Japanese citizens do not. In recent years, Western media has reported that Japanese firms frequently confiscate the passports of guest workers in Japan, particularly unskilled laborers from the Philippines and other poorer Asian countries.5 Critics call this practice, which is legal in Japan, coercive and a form of human trafficking.

    yea this makes more sense

foreigners do have some power to fight discrimination in the workplace (not sure about anywhere else), but unless you have someone to advocate for you it's pretty tough.

but that's about it. i think i know one foreigner who has successfully gotten anything back off of a discrimination claim
