Yeah because they were signed to labels and were forced to put out music, Prince has talked about this and when he went indie he put out music only when he felt inspired and not because he was obligated to

Why does any of that matter? Just listen to the songs and see if you enjoy them. Trivial things like a rollout or a “concept” shouldn’t make or break your reception. It means you’d take s*** on a platter as long as it was advertised as gold
Idc about any of that I care about the quality of the songs. He dropped 4pm in calabasas as a radio loosie he didn’t officially drop for years and it’s one of his best songs

So you would be okay with “random throwaways” as long as you liked them, correct? So the problem was never about any of the extra stuff you’re mentioning, you just didnt like the songs and now you’re finding any narrative to justify it
