As of 07/04/2025, "$$$4U" by PND & Drake has pulled ahead of The Weeknd's "Hurry Up Tomorrow" in 2025 YTD Total Sale Units (USA Only). This makes it the best selling R&B album released in 2025, YTD.
Source 1: YTD Album Chart as of June 27
The Weeknd: 1 208 526 album units
PND & Drake: 1 201 175 album units
Source 2: HDD Weekly Chart, Sales Week Ending July 4
The Weeknd: 19 060 album units
PND & Drake: 26 688 album units
TOTAL 2025 YTD ALBUM UNITS, AS OF JUL 4
The Weeknd: 1 227 586 album units
PND & Drake: 1 227 863 album units
The PND & Drake album did great numbers first week considering it's a collaboration album, and this new achievement shows the strong week by week performance. It is especially impressive when you consider that The Weeknd's album had more weeks of sales, as it came out 2 weeks prior to $$$4U.
This doesn't take away from The Weeknd's accomplishment's at all, as 490K+ first week is incredible. When his last solo album, Dawn FM, under-preformed first week, I thought he was falling off, but he proved me (and others) way wrong. Additionally, the albums week by week numbers are still very solid.
Good day to be Canadian!
NOTE: This is only 2025 YTD. Despite both albums releasing in 2025, The Weeknd had two singles off his album released in 2024. These two pre-release singles sales units within 2025 count towards this total, but the ones in 2024 do not. Including 2024 pre-release single units, I would assume The Weeknd has an addition 100-200K album units.
Calling Hurry Up Tomorrow an R&B album
Also this is inaccurate, SOS has sold 400K units more than both in 2025

sorry meant to put released in 2025 - fixed!
and both $$4U and HUT are listed as R&B albums on Apple Music
“ The PND & Drake album did great numbers first week considering it's a collaboration album”
This will never make sense to me

Blinding Lights is listed as an R&B song as well and it absolutely is not. Streaming service genre markers mean next to nothing

collab albums generally do less than the bigger artists solo album
and more than the smaller artists solo
this is actually a good idea for a thread, ill work on that next

2 fan bases colliding should equal 2x profit
yeah, but it has historically not worked that way. my assumption has always been the bigger artists more casual fans dont care for the smaller artist, and dont listen.
2 fan bases colliding should equal 2x profit
there are some exceptions though, like the gunna/baby tape - just taking generally

Right, but with this context, how does that make the $$$4U first week numbers great if it did exactly what it was expected to do?
150K less than Drake’s last solo, 200K more than Party’s last solo
It has sold 300K more units than I AM MUSIC btw. Remember when ppl called one of them a flop and the other one a huge success

It released an entire month before MUSIC.
MUSIC was #1 for three different weeks and Drake stans were on here calling it a flop

Which historically has not been the case. wattba, everything is love, voice of the heroes, pluto x baby pluto, super slimey, a written testimony, Welcome2Collegrove, etc.

i expected it to do 220K (average of their last two solos)
It did more than that which is great,
not saying its amazing or anything - but its at very least quite good

''It released an entire month before MUSIC.''
So that means that you think it will sell 300K units within the next 4 weeks? If not then pointless comment as the fact will remain that it did better

They can't handle the fact that Carti has been more impactful and influential to hip-hop than Drake since at least 2018 lol

Y’all was on here calling it a flop after its second week, stop shifting the goalposts
The reality is every single new album this year has been a borderline flop besides Morgan Wallen’s and Bad Bunny’s. None of these other projects really stuck whatsoever
