Feel free to show off your portfolio sites. I always enjoy seeing the front end creativity and performances people come up with. Post your links and describe your process in making it.

Looks good bro. Good design. What tech stack is that? Also how did you deploy it?

Appreciate it man. Honestly it's just cPanel and whm for interface management, jQuery, css, html and some very limited PHP iirc. I did this a while ago back in 2016.

However, I'm working on rebranding using WP have my local setup with wamppserver kinda like a lampstack setup.

looks good g but got a few suggestions for you from an outside perspective

    • the site runs a bit choppy with everything going on like the zoom effects and all that, scrolling is a pain
    • colors feel very off and don't fit well with each other, especially the yellow buttons
    • "Resume", "My Work", and "Services" in the header literally don't work at all
    • Some of the grammar is inconsistent and might look a bit bad in a professional environment, minor things like only one out of the three sentences mid-page ending with periods
    • your email me button links to gmail, switch that to a "mailto:" link instead so people can use whatever service they want
    • the social media buttons in the footer are awful g, I'm sorry. LinkedIn icon links to Instagram, there's a Google+ icon and that site doesn't exist anymore, the RSS button just links you to your home page, and the others link to the social media sites main domain and not any of your pages
    • Grammar in the About Me section isn't right, there's a few punctuation errors etc

Cool looking site though, just trying to give some constructive feedback as someone who has also launched a few blogs/sites

Thanks for the suggestions, but this isn't an active portfolio anymore. I haven't worked on this site since like late 2015.
I put this page together quickly so I could apply to some jobs but haven't updated it since, so it was a bit of a rush job. Didn't really feel like adding other nav links/pages so I shifted to a one-page site.

Thanks for the suggestion(s) but there's literally no choppiness on the site since it's a static HTML/jQuery site. The only way I could see any issues in load time would be the images that aren't optimized, but since the total size of the whole site is roughly 3.5mb it wouldn't be a problem at all.

The image zoom CSS transitions, which are admittedly off also don't utilize that much browser memory, so that wouldn't be attributed to the choppiness either.

Colors feel fine to me to this day even after 4-5 years. The pink and blue hues flow well to me and a few others who've seen the site. I'd be compelled to agree with you on the abrupt transition from soft hues to the abrupt yellow for the sub-navigation.

There are admittedly way more issues with the site I can pinpoint that are blaring to me that I've just decided to not fix, but some of the things pointed out above in your quote seem like opinions, not observable site-related issues, IE no caching, some background resources can be loaded using CDNs instead of loaded innately on my server, and way more functional related issues.

Anyways, again thanks. Currently I'm working as a lead dev so a lot of things were learned along the way.

No worries man, didn't mean to come of condescending or anything, just wanted to give some feedback. Good s*** on the lead dev job too, that's dope as f***.

In retrospect the choppiness is almost definitely due to me being on the macOS dev beta and Safari is a but unstable at times. I'm also plugged into a 4k monitor with my old af MacBook Pro so some things just don't run smooth regardless of if they are resource heavy just due to my s***ty integrated graphics chip.

And yeah as far as the colors, I pretty much only added that because of the yellow which seemed a bit out of place with the rest of it all. Overall it looks pretty nice

Again, good s*** on the job man, I'm looking to get something like that once I finally get my degree

Aye bro no prob. I completely get it actually have someone within Pixel Pier that reviews things on sites because honestly I get too bogged down developing sites and churning out designs

Aye man that's what's up regarding your degree. What field are you looking to get into?

That's dope as f*** man, I bet it can get hectic sometimes though phew

Imma be real with you I had a whole ass reply typed out and right as I went to hit send my finger touched my mouse and went page a page and I lost it so here's the gist:

Started as a CS major 6 years ago, started going tons of d**** and drinking vodka 24/7, blamed it on my major, bounced around degrees 3 or 4 times, tried getting sober for 2.5 years, finally got sober and have been for over a year, and recently realized I'm still passionate about CS and want to pursue it as a career for real now that I'm better.

I probably want to go the web dev route as well after thinking about it for awhile and doing a little side project of mine which was launching a sister-site to a popular programming-focused discussion board but instead catered to hiphop listeners and creators; kinda like Reddit but more so like a traditional forum, idk I can drop a link if you want. It was my first "real" website with a database and all that s*** so it took a lot of effort for me, especially not knowing how to code and having to figure s*** out myself for the most part.

It started gaining traction for a few weeks and got around 70-80 users, then when things in my life happened recently I put it on the back burner and most of the users forgot about it entirely. The other day I was messaged on another site (the one it's based off of) by the site's sysop about trying again and he gave me some advice for keeping it maintained and growing it organically, so I decided I'm gonna give it another shot since I never officially shut it down. It's a wasteland right now, with maybe 3 or 4 active users (lmao), but I had so much fun launching it and learning about what it takes to build and deploy a web app in it's entirety, so I'm going to keep posting and hope maybe eventually some more people join

Damn man. I actually was in the midst of trying to start something similar to ktt2 and Complex combined with a forum feature but for a media-oriented site. I actually had a working design that I kinda abandoned in the end. Had a few ideas but in the midst of a job-search I completely canned it.

That's dope, so what languages are you actively learning, or know already, and specifically are you trying to do with web dev?

Well I vaguely know some C++ from early college, but not nearly enough to do anything with it. I've dabbled in some python here and there, but my main focus right now is starting from the absolute ground up with HTML/CSS/JS and then heading towards Ruby on Rails for web app development.

I know it's not the best most amazing language and framework out there, but I really enjoyed learning some of the basics while launching this project site. I also really love the broader aspect of web development like front end UI/UX stuff and even more so the back end, so eventually I'd like to be full stack, though I know it's a but tough to really stand out from the crowd as a full stack dev unless you're real hot s***

damn that looks fresh af based on the link, why'd you abandon it?

if you wanna check out my little project thing it's hipppo dot fm (haven't posted here much til recently, not sure if linking my own s*** directly is allowed) but just be warned it's pretty empty as it is right now, I'm hoping to change some things soon and fix it up still

Ah yeah. I kind of shifted towards UI/UX but a lot of people are hiring for that position down here. I get calls and emails all the time. Honestly as long as you have a good looking portfolio and solid resume, you should be good if that's what you're wanting to do.

You also want to make sure you brush up on things like Angular, Angular JS, ASP, Vanilla JS and React if possible

Got a gf, other friends who I ran it with started living their own lives but we're starting it back up soon haha. I saw your site, looks like it's Rails based?
