Pondering for almost one week since learning about this disorder, I'm starting to think if I could have BPD or CPTSD of some sort. To give a disclaimer, I'm going to be seeing my therapist in 2 weeks to talk about this.

Looking back on my behaviors, I do exhibit some tendencies of this disorder, such as:

    • Mood swings: I'd easily get anxious or even freak out over the smallest things then be fine or even laugh about like 10 mins later. I'd also constantly apologize to the other person for making them feel very uncomfortable. There are bouts of rage too, then I'd calm down soon after.
    • Fear of abandonment: Even after getting into my new relationship, consistent feelings of low self-esteem and sudden abandonment floats around. Even if my GF takes longer than usual to reply or her texts deviate from usual style of communication, I'd suddenly spiral down and jump to conclusions.
    • Impulsivity: Would blow my money away on stupid s*** and even on smaller things like consistently getting takeout. Sometimes I'd cave in and drink for example, even if vowed not to (Would often drink more too).
-Sensitive to criticism: I'd feel worthless and stupid over some criticisms I'd receive
    • Habit of reckless driving: Self-explanatory here

Those are some behaviors I'd notice about myself and thinking I'd possibly have BPD. To give greater context, I have daddy issues (He had OCPD, in the way where he'd be militant, controlling, critical over the smallest things, and have bouts of rage too. I'd witness his behavior not only with me, but my mother and siblings) which resulted in the inability to trust myself to make certain decisions, leading to development of BPD/CPTSD. In addition, I was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome back in my childhood. Apparently, people on the spectrum have comorbidity with not only other conditions like ADHD, but personality disorders resulting from childhood trauma.

    Thoughts?

i don’t know you irl but if you are the biological child of a dad who has OCPD with rage you are automatically more likely to have some type of personality disorder

and on top of the genetic s***, all the trauma that comes with having a parent like that

not gonna act like I could diagnose you but it’s possible

my mom has npd and my dad has bipolar disorder
I might have a personality disorder too but i have no idea
wishing you the best fam, we gotta keep striving for our best possible selves regardless

  • Yeah you have BPD, Beautiful Princess Disorder

  • Don't try to self diagnose this is such a complex disorder and you listed like 3 symptoms

Go to a psychiatrist who's trained on diagnosis, not some therapist, if you got it drop that therapist for a BPD DBT one

You're just going to cause yourself more stress and pain a***yzing this stuff, set up the appointments and let them help

not for ktt to answer tbh, i’d say really look for a psychologist that specializes in cbt or dbt.

not to knock anyone profession, but a social worker or basic therapist probably won’t be equipped to answer so really take your time and look for someone in your area or a tele health option

I have all the respect in the world for SW and therapists, I'm a therapist too, but none of these folks can diagnose and shouldn't even give answers on the subject

  • Go to a psychiatrist not a psychologist

Your willingness to self-diagnose is a very bad thing. Talk to a therapist that has DBT certification and then let them decide whether or not to refer you to a physician — before you go hunting one down yourself and paying even more money for evaluations and testing scale s*** for something you only think you might have because of confirmation bias.

And by physician, i mean psychiatrist, not a psychologist like others ITT said.

  • If you haven’t been sober for 14 months I don’t want to hear about your mental illness

  • u got me thinking too op lol
