well physical acheivement and competition has been an inherant part of our survival, so in spectating we are simply engaging in that activity vicariously. also it invokes tribalism between groups; its fun to root for a team and so fourth
However, with music there is really no relevance to our survival whatsoever. it seems counterproductive even
