“If you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop ... there’s not a lot of people talking about real s***."
That’s s***ting on a genre.
Bro a lot of people are talking about surface level things lol. Somebody hit me with this quote earlier and he’s half right. He’s also wrong because there are prominent albums and songs that have so much depth and meaning. Two things can be correct at once if anything he would have worded it differently.

Oh you agree with it so you’re biased. Coulda said that from the jump.
Most of us that have had the fortune of listening to hip hop since the 90s take offense to this comment since it’s just not true.
Just from the big 3 alone ((at their peaks)) all 3 of their most known albums were them talking about real s***.
I gotta remember there’s kids here that was born after 9/11.
kids born after 9/11 are as old as 22 now lol tbh that’s not even a great excuse anymore. I think it just comes down to a fanbase that no longer relates to most rappers (espc racially) and thus doesn’t value the culture. Rap music is global and pop now, which is good bc it enables so many ppl to change their lives financially. but it also def comes w this weird disconnect where these kids have nothing in common w their fav rappers and would probably call them a slur or wish jail on them if they saw them on the street

Bias? How am I bias I said the same thing twice in this thread lol. When he said that quote it wasn’t in that time frame it was 2017 and a lot of people have surface level lyrics lol.
Not saying there isn’t s*** that doesn’t have meaning there is 100%. There needs to be songs to turn up to and songs with meaning. That’s part of the beauty of the genre but the more popular songs are the surface level lyrics. Just how it goes and personally I feel like that’s where his comment stemmed from.
It wasn’t worded the best but to blow up one quote and paint him as a “culture vulture” just seems like a reach. Think what you want I get it but c’mon now just feels like this is another reason for people to hate on him.

Niggas relying on hip hop for the last 15 years like it aint decades and decades of this genre where the real s*** was what was popular.
Hate what this forum’s become tbh.

You are 100% correct but nobody will admit it. Just selective reading & stems from already curated hatred for him but oh well what can you do.

No why can't you fully go to hip-hop for that? The 2010s during that time could fill a ten album quota to cover those needs in emotional music
