hello Doubledawg! I usually do twistouts but my hair in this picture was a braidout, the main difference to my knowledge is that with braidouts your hair looks noticeably longer but they're less defined than twistouts. the general look is the same though.

before I take my hair out of the braids/twists, I spray my hair very lightly with water and then apply herbal oil. I use herbal oil because that's what I have, if you already have or can get your hands on some I would recommend jamaican castor oil, if you have braids as a style there's a brand (I forget which one) that makes a castor oil spray specifically for braids. herbal oil and probably other types of oil work fine though. I know some people apply leave in conditioner too but I stopped because I think the one I was using was leaving flakes in my hair but if you plan on doing this style I would recommend possibly looking into leave in conditioning

then I just take the twists/braids out, braids take longer to take out as expected and can be significantly harder, the first time wasn't that hard for me because the braids were big but I got a lot of box braids the second time and I just couldn't take some of them out with my fingers, I had to get in each groove with the end of my comb and then use my fingers to do the rest. going to try to get my girl to help it next time because while I did get them all out eventually it was a 3-4 hour process for me that probably could have taken 30 minutes to an hour lol

I take all the twists out and then reseparate them further until it looks good to me, try not to overseparate because I feel like I usually regret it when I separate too much + I feel like it takes away from the curly look a bit (imo)

at night I just retwist my hair (I retwisted my braidout too because I don't know how to braid hair but if you know how to braid/can learn how to I would definitely recommend rebraiding them). when you're retwisting you don't need to use any product or do any detangling. just take bigger sections and retwist them. i.e. if your hair was originally in like 16-20 parts when it was twisted or braided originally you should have less parts than that when you retwist or rebraid your hair since you're doing bigger sections

I have 4C hair which has basically no natural curl pattern so this is a really cool style I can do if I want to do something with my hair and give it a curly look. I used to use the curl sponge and it looks great on shorter hair but I never liked that it was ripping out and drying out my hair and + when my hair got longer I could never get it to look nice so I decided to never use one again lol. I'm growing out my hair long term for braids but braidouts and twistouts are definitely going to be a style I keep coming back to as my hair continues to grow

hope I was able to help and lmk if you need any more info! I do my two strand twists myself so if you have any questions regarding that aspect I can help
