First album where Motown gave him full artistic freedom (those fools also also tried to prevent What's Going On from being released bc they thought it would flop, but that's another story).

And wow that's my fav song on the album how can such a sad song sound so funky

It's one of them. Music of My Mind might've been the first though. That album blew my mind too. Crazy thing about it is the main reason why I gave it a listen was because I heard Superwoman when I was on hold for CVS I didn't even want that dumbass pharmacist to answer because that song was so good. Checked out that entire album after and became a stan. Of course I heard his hits, but this made me appreciate him on a deeper level.

Crazy how that album enrolls a story of falling in love, having your heart broken, accepting what happened and then moving on and opening up for the next person. Such a simple idea but it speaks to every human on the deepest level.

    True

With EVOL alone you could say they were just another great post punk band, a product of the era.

Here's another one, before this album they were just a really good Melvins tribute band.
