Yeah i expected nothing different from your friend's parents reaction lol. That's how most African parents think. High school teachers back in the motherland is considered a poverty profession and are paid even worse than teachers in America, that mentality does not change when leaving Africa.
You're expected to become doctor, lawyer, engineer, STEM, or bust. Any other career field and you're on your own.
