Kendrick won't be remembered the way people think he will be. I'm saying that as someone who's listened to him since 2009 K Dot leading up to the Kendrick Lamar EP. I have every song this man has ever done, ever. I also never play any of them most people don't even realize how much music Kendrick has actually put out. Because no one actually cares.

I agree with the sentiment hip hop is failing in a lot of aspects but Larry Jackson, presumably, said that Drake x Kendrick lifted the entire genre up by 5x. Replace Drake with J Cole, you're not getting the same lift. It'd be a lift, but not even close to the same lift.

My gut feeling is Drake is in a league of his own. He's a brand. He's a rapper yes and he creates hip hop music that always gets released and perceived as 'hip hop music from Drake' as opposed to other artists where their branding doesn't really even matter.

It's a failing genre, relatively still young, things could change, sentiments could change, we are seeing more involvement of hip hop in society, but as far as what I mean with Drake - I think he's poised to have another 5-7 years of DRAKE level dominance in hip hop whether or not other artists stay afloat.

He's also going to continue singing and making pop music b/c he's multifaceted. There's a chance even he tries out country or rock music at one point too.

1. You don't get paid a dime to perform.
2. The spending budget from the NFL for the performing acts to use on putting on their sets is very little to non-existent and so most artists end up using their own money to put together their own sets, usually running up to millions of dollars.
3. It's a very short performance (less than 15 minutes) but you have to spend months in rehearsal.
4. It's a very heavily-scrutinized stage to perform on and once your show is done, countless American publications immediately start making comparisons to the greatest performances ever put on that stage and you're likely to never meet expectations even if you put on a great show.
5. The exposure/reward isn't as great as it used to be. Most artists only get a small boost in their discography numbers before things return back to the way they were so altogether, very little payoff.

There's probably a bunch of other reasons I'm either not thinking of or I'm not even aware of.

The casual fans are all ready to hang up the jerseys, and that's fine. If anything I've wanted that. This like that moment where everything breaks apart just so you can figure out how to piece it all back together. He has complete freedom to operate on the next project.
