why the f*** should I keep listening to a genre actively trying to eliminate its biggest star, has no cool "new guard to carry the torch, and who's overall quality of music has become so subpar since COVID. I mean f***ing Noah kahan clears 98% of s*** I've heard come out of rap lol.. idk it's just like rap really might be making its rock and roll exit goin out sad
I hear you man but it’s integral to the legacy of hip hop to have it continually passed down through generations. Those of us that take this s*** to heart knows that the ones that matter are the ones who aren’t fair weather fans but the ones that love the genre through good and bad. My hope is we’ll see a resurgence of passion for the art through the new school year especially now that hip hop isn’t the leading genre anymore. This reset was needed imo even if that means the leaders of our generation need to take a step back and let some new guys/girls shine. It’s not a requirement, but honestly this would be the perfect time for Drake to find an adequate protégé I think it would do wonders for his legacy and help someone (hopefully) deserving get one of the biggest co-signs imaginable. Would be nice to see it come full circle

I get what you saying. There is no next up in the new wave of rappers. I’m 28 and I highly doubt we ever get that feeling again from the new school like with Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Wale, Sean etc. A few years ago I thought Lil Baby, Meg and Roddy Ricch would be the new big 3. They all fell the f*** off

Let me add. We had a potential big 3. X, Pop Smoke and Juice Wrld. They all had that crossover appeal that a star has to have and unfortunately their time was cut short. Maybe King Von even? So there was some potential new superstars but we’ll never know

X showed a lot of promise had he continued to develop imo. He was just immature for most of his time.
He had the ability to craft songs that are catchy yet showed a vulnerability in songwriting to connect with the listener.

this is why chief keef forever a legend in my eyes, blew at 14 with the entire rap game watching him, did some dumb s*** at first which any teenager gonna do when you give them fame and millions (but never took s*** too far), but matured insanely quick. crazy how keef considered a modern legend and hes only like 28 years old
