Yeah man. There has always been intertwined influence between church and music (especially within hip hop) from inspiration to instrumental, but all in all I think the real root is from struggle. I think as the disparity in life for people gets worse financially and the impacts of America swinging hard to a right wing state, we’ll see more and more grounds for inspiration with a message
I feel that, I'd love a protege from Drake too but the older I get the less rap I listen to anyway because of the perspective. Granted, this is the first generation that has had aging icons (3k, Hov, Ye, etc) that still produced quality music but it's pretty infrequent. So the space is occupied with the younger artists but their experiences to me are nothing like the experiences of the previous generation. The real storyboarded rappers, that I think could've and were mainstream, were the serial killers

Yes, but every generation is more well off here in America and while food insecurity/food deserts are still an issue I think the information and awareness makes that issue smaller. Church did more than train musicality, it was also networking and discipline
