When I heard that first “yea” I thought we were getting vintage 30 for 30 drake and I was hype as hell.. and we were getting it up until that dumbass beat drop. What a waste.

I hope he doesn’t take the wrong critiques from this to heart. The visuals and concept are super cool and seeing him get in his storytelling bag again is exciting. ICEMAN presentation is actually extremely ambitious and I’ve never seen anything like it before, but there’s two big issues IMO.

The first is there’s too much empty space which is understandable given the type of production this is and how difficult it must be to do everything in one take and there isn’t really a precedent he’s following as far as I know?

The second is while the music is clearly thematically related to what’s happening on screen, the quality of the songs is lacking and then he’s not even picking the most appropriate beats to rap over. Just playing them by themselves like

Something like this for an HNVM type album or even CLB!!!!!!! would be so fitting.

I hope he refines and revisits this approach instead of just abandoning it in the future. There’s something really cool here but it needs more work. That’s kinda the story of 2020s Drake though it feels like.
