It’s mental illness with that one don’t bother. He’ll never have a good faithed conversation about drake since ktt2 drake fans hurt his feelings or whatever lol

So you think albums dont matter? You think my opinion that albums matter is in bad faith, and not because I grew up in hiphop and on albums? Get a grip man the battle is over

Drake working with Yachty and also Yeat was his worst mistake

Probably worse than losing the beef in 2024

Yachty has written some fire music for Drake. I think he should keep him as a writer but it seems like they are not friends anymore

it's my own fault for engaging, i'm procrastinating finishing my grad school apps

I do think the way rappers make music has changed because of mixtapes, where the idea becomes to release a constant stream of music. And the way hip hop fans consume music has changed, I feel like hip hop has become this 24/7 soundtrack that you listen to on your way to work, at work, driving to the club, at the club, idk. it's hard to explain but it's like this pulsating thing.

Like in rock a song like Smells Like Teen Spirit can be big and important, and in rap the equivalent is a mixtape like Monster.

Like idk there's no rap song special enough that it can define someone's legacy like Smells like Teen Spirit did for Nirvana

That’s why I said big budget. Preview a single, drop it with a dope ass mv and give it an actual radio push and announce a release date for the album

Plot Twist is still the best single he could release for Iceman at this moment. For some odd reason, he chooses to gatekeep it from us lmao apparently someone in the snippet thread said allegedly the beat got reworked. Big oof if true

i think he previewed it for too long. he built it up and now is scared that it won't live up to the hype.

Kinda crazy how he fumbled almost everything after the beef

He should've just locked in with a good solo project but instead he was still doing stake promo and released 3 mid singles to promote ICEMAN

I'm not saying they're bad at all but I used to think that he knows that people (and even most of his fans) expected way more. Nobody wanted Doghouse with f***ing Yeat. I bet these songs aren't on the album

So tell me which part of my point is in bad faith? The topic is about why albums matter or not, and instead of showing me the bad faith portion of my perspective, youre just crying about my existence?

it's funny you in particular as a Weeknd stan act like having a concept in music is impressive. The Weeknd has been making "concept albums" and the second someone asks him to elaborate on his vision, as they have with his tv show and movie, he exposes himself as an utter midwit.

at his core he's a frat boy who think d**** are cool and likes f***ing hot girls who do the same d****, and in the halfassed realm of music that's enough but it means nothing. he has nothing interesting to say.

Most album concerts are super loose though, what is Life of Pablo other than the name being cool and who it's in relation to? What is the concept of Astroworld other than the theme park and childhood nostalgia? What is Whole Lotta Red other than punk aesthetics and sonics? Weeknd's concept albums have been on par with others

I hope Drake knows better than to include songs that nobody liked on the tracklist, its a shame, he tried to ignore the loss away while simultaneously throwing gas on it with the lawsuit and it backfired terribly

A lot of people expected him to bounce back easily with a mega hit or two, and the complete opposite happened

Well to be fair, he was throwing s*** at the wall last year and none of the singles for Iceman stuck

Idk why he didn't do Nokia formula pt2, every other Pt2 song he does goes well, Sicko Mode to Meltdown, Knife Talk to Jimmy Cooks to a whole album

thread should be locked until something new is announced

Yachty had a lot of sauce picking beats though, some of the beats on SSS are more sauce-less and needed a more youthful ear that isn't Octavian

no weeknd's good with concept albums, i had misread what Fader said and was saying that i don't care about concept albums personally due to their looseness compared to other avenues of storytelling.

Like the weeknd's good at music concept albums but in this more challenging medium he falls apart.

Yeat is practically his artist, Drake's method has always been to ride the waves of the current youth too, I think maybe he is just too old to do it without pushback now

Correct. He’s still chasing youth in some of the themes too. Like…he still think he really has a pulse on the current wave.
