Mark Cuban is an Indiana alum, but didn't really contribute until they started having success. He basically said after this season, they won't have to worry much about funding anymore. If you look at their roster and "caliber" of player, they're easily dwarfed by other schools. They were successful due to smart spending and player evaluation relative to scheme/fit.

I honestly think, knowing a bit about Cuban, if the success is halted the funding from him will be too. And funding isn't a fix-all or guarantee either (see Texas).
