He most likely didn't, especially if he was ill the last few years. Most of the solidified mastering engineers have their lower levels do a lot of their work for volume fulfillment and they stamp it after doing last stage tweaks, if even that. From Dave Klutch to Athens. You can even get them to master your s*** if you have the money for it. They all have websites and pricing for anyone.
