    Finished Certified Lover Boy.

I have a lot to say about this project because this project is both the most frustratingly brilliant and brilliantly frustrating work in Drake's entire discography to me.

This album fooled me with the first two songs. I'll never forget thinking we had just gotten Drake's next classic after I heard Champagne Poetry and Papi's Home. The problems start immediately after these.

    • Girls Want Girls is terrible, straight up. The melody is catchy, sure, but the content of the song and the Fisher Price production make it unbearable to listen to
    • In the Bible is a little better, but it's a bit of a slog with Drake repeating the same vocal line for his entire section. Durk's verse is great, but then Giveon comes in and completely derails the song.
    • Love All is really good, but I'm still a little upset that he scrapped the second half of that song, but that wasn't supposed to see the light of day so it's not a mark against this album
    • Fair Trade, I really like, but again I feel like Travis's verse derails the song
    • Way 2 Sexy is a funny flip, the first minute of the song is a huge shot of energy, but the song loses all steam after Drake's verse
    • TSU's first half is amazing, I don't think the second half is as strong but it's not bad
    • N 2 Deep is a classic, no notes
    • Pipe Down is a classic, no notes
    • Yebba's Heartbreak is a great interlude

If the album ended here, I would think overall it's a pretty good Drake project with just a few criticisms I have that keep me from loving it fully.

Then we get to the second half of the album, which I think is arguably the weakest and worst-sequenced stretch of music on any Drake project period.

    • No Friends In The Industry is tired both content-wise and production-wise. I can see how it might be a good track to play in the gym, but besides that I just can't listen to Drake talking about fake friends anymore this deep into his career
    • Knife Talk is bland and doesn't fit thematically on this project whatsoever. It's cool at a live show but the studio version just does nothing for me
    • 7am On Bridle Path is easily the weakest of the timestamp series. Verse and production are both unmemorable
    • Race My Mind is really incredible, the second half of this one is a great callback to the Thank Me Later soundscape
    • Fountains is very uninteresting
    • Get Along Better is dope, I like the build-up as the song progresses a lot
    • You Only Live Twice sounds like a poor recreation of Lord Knows/YOLO-Era YMCMB cuts. The production doesn't stand out and none of the verses are memorable either
    • IMY2 is laughably bad
    • F***ing Fans is pretty cool, I wish the autotune was a little less heavy in the first half though
    • The Remorse is his weakest outro to me, and it also feels like a poor recreation of a Take Care-cut with less memorable production and less interesting rapping

So if the first half of CLB leaves me feeling like it's a pretty decent album that has some of his best-ever records with a couple issues overall, then the second half of CLB leaves me feeling like it's Drake's second-worst project in his discography with a back-half that is completely unremarkable, incohesive, and lacking a real identity. 5/10

again, shaleirose/fader you my nigga but disrespect IMY2 like this again and i’ll personally send you to the wolves too

the people on the distribution side get to hear the music this early before it's released?

Yes lol, they have to get samples and features cleared. That's how Charlemagne and Ebro knew the Bully details, via Gamma.

In Drake's case, it could even be dumbass podcasters like Mal whom he divulges info and music to.

Agreed, there’s an incredible album inside of this mediocre album and on one hand he tried to please too many and on the other there was beef diversions
