Sonically GNX was good but Kendrick took a big step back in lyrics and it didn't feel authentic because he was all of a sudden trying to do certain west coast sounds that were not him. Him using Drakeo's slang and style just wasn't it for example. Others heard it too but kind of stepped around it

NewhouseGenuinely think if he added the best 4-5 songs between the other two albums (mostly maid of honor tbh) to the best like, 8-10 songs on Iceman there would at least be an enjoyable enough project here with plenty of variety, enough that it would at least comfortably be his best this decade.
Unfortunately as it is though, it's not growing on me. Would not want to sit down to listen through any of these start to finish again. Drake will never get past his quantity over quality approach to music.
The thing is with his approach is someone somewhere is really f***ing with the ones you don’t. He understands this now he’s not tryna appease to critics or win Grammys, A few songs aren’t to my taste but he released plenty that are

I'm unbiased because I recognize when Drake delivers incredible work and influences generations, but I also don't give him a pass for his downward slump. For All The Dogs had a higher batting average than this s***. And Nokia at least heavily carries SSS4U

And a third thing can be true this can absolutely grow on you, it dropped less than 24 hrs ago, none of us should be concrete about our takes rn
Also a 4th thing is true I’ve realized with time that subverted expectations can cause a negative experience with music, I went in expecting nothing and loved it
