if you're judging song for song maybe (still no). how he executed the gkmc concept was masterful and incomparable imo. especially coupled with the high quality songs. gkmc is basically a perfect album

Exactly. Even as someone very critical of current Kendrick, TPAB and GKMC is probably some of the greatest back to back albums a musician will ever do. But after he moved to DAMN and Mr. Morale, he took a step down. You could tell he was in an artistic funk and forcing it a bit. Too much pressure to follow them up while building his fanbase.
Section.80 over GKMC was not an unheard of opinion back then though because some people just wanted to be different and let people know they knew him before he became more popular.

yeah S80 is also a great album. tpab imo is carried heavily by the concept unlike s80 n gkmc. I understand people want s80 to get its well-deserved shine but gkmc is the closest you can get to a classic hiphop album. Quality, cultural relevance, impact, hits, numbers, influence, timelessness. it checks every box. every thing from Kendrick after that is a step down
