I feel like before Drake it was probably Hov because a lot of casuals strangely feel he is overrated and rate people like 50 higher than him which is nuts but yeah

Unfortunately it’s not easy

The internet is loud, people are loud

Also it’s only natural when you consider yourself a longtime fan of the genre and you understand on a deep level what makes a rapper nice and you are able to appreciate the value and craftsmanship in something in a particular rapper’s artistry but the masses push the narrative of him being trash because it’s become a meme at this point

Genuinely irritating, doesn’t stop me from enjoying, but I’d be lying if I said I never catch myself listening sometimes and wonder to myself “how tf do people think THIS is trash? It makes no sense” lol

Kendrick became the "say you like him to show you really like rap and is not some casual rap fan, and that you are not against black people"

The industry, for years, has also been scared to say anything negative towards Kendrick because of the whole 2012 Macklemore backlash. Or going against the guy who is being portrayed as a "real rapper" and "real culture".
