been in Warsaw since Sunday and it’s been really interesting

talked to a few refugees via my friend who speaks Ukrainian and most didn’t really have any opinions on anything other than being scared and happy they got out. there’s a woman at the hotel i’m staying at who’s just finding Ukrainian refugees at the train station and buying them as many hotel rooms as she can. huge signs all over the city showing solidarity, and i walked by the Polish president’s palace yesterday and there was a fleet of mercedes with Ukrainian license plates parked out front

Obviously a nuclear war isn’t “worth it”, ever. No one is arguing that. But by your logic we should never ever stop any country that has nukes from doing anything at all

This isn't a thing of principles, it's dealing with an actual situation right now, 'allowing' Russia to invade Ukraine would likely stave off nuclear war more than NATO countries getting involved, I genuinely don't think Putin is aiming to domino-effect his way into a reunification of the Russian Empire, Ukraine's situation is too specific

BUT i'd say there's a very good chance nobody actually uses their nukes because of MAD. I'm certain that Russia does not want to get wiped off the face of the earth. I'm certain they know that launching nukes would mean they get wiped off the face of the earth. Therefore, I'm fairly confident that they wouldn't launch nukes unless absolutely necessary.

am i saying that we shouldn't worry abt nuclear war and that it will never happen? No. It's totally a possibility, and totally important to keep in mind.

That being said, the claim that any conflict between nuclear powers must end in nuclear war is an assumption. Pure conjecture. To act like it's a certainty is silly.

Yes, there are people who earnestly believe conflict between two nuclear powers does not have to end in nuclear war. When these people are advocating for war between nuclear powers, they are not advocating for nuclear war.
