Communism has never existed materially, only ideologically as

The USSR never made itself out to be a Utopia and the collapse of the USSR wasn’t out of the fact that socialism in the country didn’t work, but rather a lack of adherence after the liberalization of the Khrushchev era.

And even then the USSR’s economic system turned a backwater feudal-agricultural state into a premier world power that provided over 100 million people their first access to industry, technology, education, and modern infrastructure

Yeah capitalists like to ignore the fact that it was only after the USSR began to roll back communist policies in favor of liberal market reforms that the USSR became such a bad place

Of course, the reason liberal reforms were even possible was a door that was opened while socialism was still in effect (namely the inability/unwillingness to grasp the fact that class struggle does not stop under socialism, but continues and is in fact at its highest level of instensity) but that’s a different conversation

Other than sanctions & political finger wagging, what are the other ramifications of becoming a Pariah State?

Also, weren’t Germany, Japan & China pariah states at one time too?

germany being a pariah state + great depression caused the rise of Hitler

Of course, Stalin did some stuff

Stalin made a great deal of errors but they’re primarily not the things he’s accused of by the US

Overall Stalin was good but his fatal error was being unable to dialectically grasp class struggle. He could only perceive of it in a mechanical way, as a result of his poor grasp on dialectical materialism. This admittedly led to unjust excesses (no where near to the level trash crypto-fascists accounts such as the Gulag Archipelago make them out to be though), but more importantly it made it possible for liberalism and free market reforms to take root in the USSR

Overall I adhere to Mao’s assessment that he was 70% good, 30% bad
