The stuff we’ve called pro-Russian in this thread is a far cry away from that post. And the stance of “why should we care about this when y’all didn’t care about us before” is not the way forward, even if the latter is true.
We obviously can’t change the past but this is an opportunity to try to make sure that WE (as civilians) ALWAYS care in the future. Sewing further division is not it.

And in the best case, they will refuse to speak on those matters as to not distract from what Russia is doing. I've had several people itt accuse me of these things when I brought up concerns about how the far-right will benefit from this war, Western hypocrisy when they do the same thing, or unequal treatment of refugees.

In fact people are already showing how little they care about people who share the same fate as Ukrainians at this very moment in the most heinous ways. There are already people who are pleading to replace Syrians in refugee shelters with Ukrainians here in the Netherlands.
There is no sign of change at all, and the fact that it's almost only people of an immigrant background who are even talking about this shows that there probably won't be any change in the future either.
Should you tell anybody that they shouldn't care about this? Absolutely not. But neither should you tell people to care about a situation when you didn't care about them in the past when they had the same fate and you aren't showing any signs of that changing in the future. Especially when the disparity is still in place at the present moment, not just the past.

It has never been about bringing up and discussing those things in this thread. There is real concern to be had about arming far-right insurgences and the current treatment of minorities in Eastern Europe. And we all are aware of that.
However, many of the same people in this thread that repeatedly “bring light” to those issues have also spent the ENTIRE time posting legitimate Russian propaganda (I.e. faked photoshops), linking unapologetically pro-Russia twitter feeds and subreddits, minimizing Russia’s actions (i.e. “it’s OK they only bombed the facility right next to the nuclear power plant”), calling everything pro-Ukraine propaganda, and more. Then resort to name-calling when called out for it.
People’s homes are being destroyed and children are being murdered so clearly it’s a good time to repeatedly meme the ghost of Kyiv.
Everything has reality to it but the actual message gets lost amidst all the other bullshit.
And yes, there is never going to be a magic moment when we rid the world of racism and far-right ideology. It’s just not going to happen. But ALL of us know that those people are human trash. Working together to make them the bare minority of society without political power is the best we can do. Those of us who are not human garbage need to work together, knowing that we may fall short of our ultimate goals but at least get closer to a better world. Cynicism and being at odds with each other is never going to get us there. It’s just going to allow for more finger-pointing and ideologically arm those fringe garbage portions of humanity to recruit more members.
