still yet to see why russia should be able to keep mariupol and all other territory seized during the invasion, rather than that which ukraien had already lost control of

Well we can’t even begin to have that conversation because Zelensky said they will not give up ANY territory

As such, the world is blessed with yet another forever war and democracy is saved

Ukraine should keep all its territory. However, borders are drawn using power, and Russia has more than Ukraine. Zelenskyy ought to recognise this and negotiate Russian annexation of the disputed regions in exchange for the war stopping. Ukraine cannot take those regions back without foreign aid, and Putin will just take them a decade on if Ukraine somehow holds them. If Zelenskyy is denying peace in exchange for the disputed territory, he has ukrainian and russian blood on his hands

the old Soviet tactic, fix your stagnating population by oppressing others, repopulate invaded territory with pro-Russians then stage a fake referendum like in Crimea

You have a link to that report?

If the russians had not annexed crimea and aided donbass separatists, the pro-russian sentiment within ukraine would have either continued or gotten even stronger

maidan produced backlash which was overshadowed by russia then hurling its toys out of the pram.

if russia had used its financial and economic levers, it would have been able to turn ukraine towards it, and also benefit from the fact the party of regions would have seen an upswing in support due to the chaos maidan plunged ukraine into

Ironically, by doing the above, and later invading ukraine now, the russians will have doubtlessly turned countless russian speakers and ethnic russians in the east against them. why would they support russia when theyve just destroyed their homes and livelihoods?

no one has done more to turn ukraine toward the west than putin himself, he blundered hard

this is going to be an event that helps bridge the pro-russian east and pro-western west and ultimately does more ukrainian national identity than anything else

im sure even the less pro ukraine in here will agree

realist IR theory such as that espoused by mearsheimer fails to factor in the behaviour of non great powers. by dimishing the rational behaviour of ukraine as trivial, it ignores the rational course for ukraine would in this case be to say 'fuck russia'

now is a good time to reveal my thesis is on domestic political drivers and realism in russian foreign policy. i know my s*** even if my posts seem like that of a 14 year old

Ik many people have talked about the double standards that have been apparent now that there’s a refugee crisis with white people

An aspect I haven’t seen talked about is now that you have tens of thousands potentially hundreds of thousands of ukrainians flooding into western countries is whether they’ll be able to culturally assimilate well. I mean Eastern Europeans are extremely f***ing racist even for white peoples standards lol, in places like london or toronto or nyc there’s a type of diversity they’ve probably never seen before…different people they’ve probably never seen before…

It’s a fair question since people said the same thing for muslim refugees, Eastern Europeans are basically as socially conservative
