Article certainly implies he lost his mind, but I dug a little deeper. Wasn't exactly a "random" statement as the article calls it.
Pope says Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told him that Russia plans to end the war on May 9th when they met in April.

Ukraine is also currently accusing Hungary of knowing about Russia invading Ukraine before the war started.
S*** doesn't look like it's ending anytime soon though. Or maybe Putin planned for a May 9th victory, but the war isn't exactly going as planned.

i think putin planned to end the conflict on may 9th because he thought it would be a swift victory
wouldn't make sense to end the war that day in the current circumstances tho since the russian army didn't secure any of their objectives
