Zelensky knew and believed russia would invade. This proves the hypothesis that he was talking down panic and trying to prevent an economic collapse right

I remember people claiming zelenskys attempt to downplay the invasion as proof the us was stirring s*** up

After reading wapo article, I can say he didn't even say this lol

Great now I've accidentally aided the vatniks

You clearly didn’t read the article, because he said exactly that. I’d suggest not using Twitter as your sole news source

“You can’t simply say to me, “Listen, you should start to prepare people now and tell them they need to put away money, they need to store up food.” If we had communicated that — and that is what some people wanted, who I will not name — then I would have been losing $7 billion a month since last October, and at the moment when the Russians did attack, they would have taken us in three days. I’m not saying whose idea it was, but generally, our inner sense was right: If we sow chaos among people before the invasion, the Russians will devour us. Because during chaos, people flee the country.”

Ah yes Russians in the Crimea fleeing war are just tourists

  • Aug 17, 2022

A lot of these people are doubtlessly just tourists whose vacations took a nosedive

I feel for the permanent residents of crimea itself but they have it no worse than basically anyone in Ukraine, and probably still have it better

Not to mention that if you're a Ukrainian or tatar there you've basically been kidnapped by a neighbouring state already

to be fair 'russian soldier' isnt a nationality. soldier is an occupation and russian is a nationality. if all russians wre called orcs this counter argument would hold, but it's only soldiers. therefore being an orc is a choice.

krishna already dropped a much better objection i agree with

But in Russia being a soldier isn't a choice for a lot of people right?

Putin looks like an orc tho tbh

They do have for young men as far as i know. Not sure if they're used in actual battle operations tho. But with Russia you never know what is true or not anyway. Remember the captured Russian soldier calling his parents saying he didn't wanna be there?

Yeha youre right it isn't fair to tar young boys with no choice with the same label as old men with cognitive decline turning their country into an international pariah

I believe there are no conscripts being sent to Ukraine as it is technically not a war but a "special military operation." Instead they are praying on poor minorities who don't know their rights and are tricked into signing contracts. They have also been getting a lot of old men to sign up, with money as the main draw. That being said, the young ethnic Russian males that are there, are there because they want to be there. As such, it's fair game to call Spetsnaz, VDV etc what they are - orcs.

NYT read this thread and said stop lying about Kherson

Ukrainian forces pinned down in their trenches

cuts to supply lines have not yet eroded Moscow’s overwhelming advantage, making it impossible for Ukrainian forces to press forward

Ukrainian lieutenant: "We need the advantage in numbers, we need the advantage in heavy weapons. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a problem for us"

Ukraine is operating under a condensed timeline due to plans for September referendum on Kherson’s absorption by Russia

Soldiers moving forward are in real danger of getting eaten away

TWO senior Ukrainian military officials said there was NO EVIDENCE of this of Russian field commanders moving their headquarters east of the river

Russia pre-moved large amounts of equipment, allowing it to fight on for some time, even with disabled supply lines

“The prospect of being isolated from the rest of their forces won’t do anything for the morale of Russian troops. . .Russia has a lot of military bridging, it’s got quite a lot of ferries, it’s got riverboats.”

Counteroffensive could take months, not weeks and could sap the Ukrainian military of the resources to pursue other campaigns

Ukrainian Soldier's Wife: "Her husband has become pessimistic about Ukraine’s chances to retake the region and liberate their home"

Ukraine takes two random, inconsequential villages Russia never cared about

TB: they should be retaking the whole of Kherson any day now!
