I def think the US knew EU sanctions were gonna balance out issues with Russia but expected weakened eur/gbp to bolster dollar value w/o causing as much of a relative economic bump domestically as the equivalent did in europe. i don't buy that the US didn't expect EU sanctions to backfire when they spent like near 2 decades telling Europe to stop being dependent on Russian oil
