Seems like the West is committed to making Ukraine completely uninhabitable for decades

My conclusion is America seems to not want a total ukrainian victory

Why have they not given them F 16s and better artillery? with the right supplies Ukraine could probably just finish russia within a year.

    kinda pathetic from Washington

the fact that even when the aforementioned supposedly cedes my extended family will still remain in ukraine. although theyre not on the frontlines, they might be forever handicapped by private investment that will now rule over their land. I got a nephew who'll have to make do there, it doesn't look too promising to him 10+ years down the line considering the job market is already massively f***ed and workers rights have been getting decimated left and right. you give that in the hands of another country (the US at that) and see what happens to quality of life over there

    is that depressing enough?

poland turned out alright, things got a lot better. i also feel quite suspicious of this articles framing. it’s vague, i detailed and basically amounts to ‘private investment bad’. ukrainian support for zelenskyy stems from him being a wartime leader, you cannot predict the state of ukraine after this war is over.

plus if ukraine joins eu they get the eu regs and free movement, they won’t be locked in ukraine

Biggest takeaway has been the admission that the West has run out of artillery. They're not providing clusters because they're a magical weapon, they're just out of ideas and making things up no matter how dangerous they are. It's either they get desperate or the war collapses.

U.S produces in a month roughly the amount of artillery that would last Ukraine a week. E.U is far worse at producing shells. Saving up for a few months while Ukraine uses cluster munitions won't save them long term.

Russian attrition is now badly affecting at the most necessary component of these battles. You can't win this without artillery and Ukraine is already limited by not being able to shoot as intensely as Russia does.

i would question the intentions of that article. it has its own framing of things and isn’t particularly well sourced. yes ukraine has a government that has scaled back certain programs and regulations , however importantly, they vote for them. in the present moment not being bombed or killed is far more pressing

polling shows most ukrainians hold broadly social democratic attitudes to welfare, labor relations etc. the depressing ness of a hypothetical neoliberal consensus when the war is over pales in comparison to the present reality

being bummed out by a democratically elected neoliberal government while said country is being ruined seems like totally and wildly misplaced care

and if pointing to the merits of the eu makes me a d***head, wait til you see what ukrainians think of the prospect of eu membership. they want it

all EU member states are subject to the working time directive, which sets a base level of labor protection. ukraine, as long as it is in the eu, cannot be any worse than this baseline, which is shared with several states that are broadly considered good places to live.

you seem to have a ridiculously low opinion of ukraine and ukrainians if you think they can’t become prosperous countries like poland, the baltics etc.

    why can’t they do that?

of course not, which is why we have regulations ukrainian governments can introduce, and that the eu will enforce upon ukraine upon accession. this limits what can be done

Because the owners of their country don't allow that

The Ukraine government just cut all rights to collective bargain and is legally forced to reject any labor reform if they don't want their loan conditions to worsen

it’s likely that they’d end up somewhat like poland and czechia even if it takes a whole. those are 2 free market capitalist economies so of course you won’t see that as desirable, but they have come w long way as most of our citizens would agree

becoming economically similar to poland is not depressing wt all, life is better now than it has been for the past 70 years and more

NGL it is pretty funny to see people who rightfully call out Ukraine’s wartime practices in regards to labor rights then do apologia for Leninist ‘war communism’ policies lmao

CPUSA even supported and enforced no-strike clauses during WW2 in their “Popular Front” phase

A nation-state will always subjugate labor to mobilize society for war

Wow this makes it seem like the people in charge of armies and investment firms are fundamentally opposed to the workers! Wow imagine if Russians and Ukrainians find out about this!
